With a True Blood-like poster featuring portraits of Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer hovering in front of a haunted house, one may mistakenly expect a vampire tale starring this popular horror-series couple. However, Open House, written and directed by Anna's brother, Andrew Paquin, is a far cry from the hit TV series. Rather, it is a slow-paced horror film in which couple Josh (Moyer) and Alice (Rachel Blanchard) try to sell their home to prepare for divorce but encounter a hazard in the form of psychotic couple David (Brian Geraghty) and Lila (Tricia Helfer), who steal the home and move right in, with deadly results. In fact, Paquin, as Alice's friend Jennie, and Moyer have mere cameos in Open Ho! use. The bulk of the plot is devoted to David's conundrum ! as Alice struggles to stay alive in the basement. While Open House is not overly gory, there are bloody moments. Overall, it is no Texas Chainsaw Massacre, meaning that the film is not about gore in itself. The film is primarily a psychological investigation of a man who is torn between torturing and killing. This narrative has created some rich horror film territory--see any of Dario Argento's films, such as Opera--but Open House mines no new approach. A couple of odd, funny moments, like when David offers Alice a sandwich while he gets out his laptop to work despite her bruised, defeated appearance, hint at the contemporary edge, an ennui, that this film tries so hard to achieve. But it is mostly a fluffy rehash of a story that horror films can only pull off if they have either style or script going for them, not to mention a captivating criminal character. Open House lacks engaging characters or original vision. Chloe (played by Anna Paquin, The Piano) is a lovely and somewhat my! sterious young woman who challenges John's opinions and makes ! him thin k about why he believes what he believes. They bicker in the way that people do when they are attracted to each other. Chloe also has a few secrets of her own, some of which she hides behind ambivalence and a tiny bit of fear. Paquin, who also served as one of the film's executive producers, is particularly convincing in her role: Smart, sweet and cynical, she complements Meyer's endearing acting style. The filmmakers make no apologies for their political leanings; though this romantic comedy would like viewers to think about what is happening in U.S. politics, it doesn't bludgeon the point too often. Where the film falters occasionally is in the hefty dialogue between Chloe and John. Do people really talk like that? Set in a rural, swampy Louisiana parrish, the show centers around Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin) and her clan, sweet grandmother Adele (Lois Smith) and air-headed brother Jason (Ryan Kwanten). Illicit love is spawned early on, when Sookie saves vampire Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer) from having his blood stolen in the parking lot of Merlotte’s diner, owned by Sam Merlotte (Sam Trammell) who completes wh! at will form a complex love triangle. As tensions between Sookie’s suitors loosen or tighten, many side plots, such as her African American best friend Tara’s (Rutina Wesley) struggle with an alcoholic, Bible-thumping mother and her brother’s dangerous crush on drug addicted hippie, Amy Burley (Lizzy Caplan), keep one wondering who will succeed in this podunk place. The main tension throughout, however, is a race war waged between vampires and humans. As murders of “fang bangers” occur (human girls who let vampires bite them) and dumb policeman Andy Bellefleur (Chris Bauer) fails to find clues, one sees the metaphorical implications of vampirism and feels deeper resonance with what can be a downright trashy show. Gossip galore, especially about what kinds of babies interbreeding will produce, is rampant. One of the funniest characters is Tara’s flamboyant cousin, Lafayette (Nelsan Ellis), who deals drugs, works as a fry cook, and services the local white politic! ians, while making sure he’s always up in everyone’s busin! ess.

What makes True Blood smarter than pure soap opera is the parallels it draws between its monster mash and actual, familiar societal problems. Sookie and her friends watch the news, where Evangelicals bash vampires and prohibit mixed marriage, and everyone is addicted to V, a.k.a vampire blood, that effects like psychedelic heroin. Even its gore reflects a mix of serious and silly, as vampires explode into red, sticky goop. Though it may not be attempting to qualify for the best vampire footage ever shot, True Blood is as addictive as that substance the town’s youth obsesses over, which is a metaphor in itself. --Trinie Dalton

• Apply Pre-Treatment to dry hair. For Red s! hades, apply Pre-Treatment to damp hair (see Helpful Hints for All Red Shades below).
• Put on gloves provided for application of color after applying Pre-Treatment to hair.

ALL OVER COLOR

Ideal For First Time Haircolor Users OR for Users Who Have Not Colored in 3 Months or Longer.

	1. PRE-TREAT DRY HAIR Before coloring, apply our Pantene Pro-V 1-Minute Color Pre-Treatment and prepare hair to accept color evenly. Apply to dry hair (not wet). Open Pre-Treatment Sachet [1] by tearing at the perforation. Squeeze out Pre-Treatment into your hand.
	Apply Pre-Treatment to hair, avoiding ! the root area and concentrating on dry ends. Leave on for at least 1 minute. Do not rinse. Wash hands. Begin color preparation, Step 2, "Prepare" below.
	2. PREPARE Put on Professional Colorist Gloves. Pull up the tab to remove the tip of the Moisturizing Developer bottle [2b], discard the tab, and unscrew the cap.
	Empty entire contents of the Deep Moisturizing Color Crème tube [2a] (previously opened for Skin Allergy Test - see opposite side of leaflet) into the Moisturizing Developer bottle [2b] and replace cap.
	Place gloved finger over the applicator tip. Shake well, holding away from face, until color is totally blended and mixture thickens. Apply color immediately. Never reseal bottle or store color mixture in a closed container. Once mixed, a sealed container of haircolor could burst.
	3. START COLORING Squeeze Moisturizing Developer bottle [2b] to apply color onto hair. Apply color mixture to the whole head, including the Pre-Treatment application areas, for the best results. When covering gray, start where you have the most gray. When using haircolor to lighten, start where your hair is the darkest. Thoroughly saturate your hair, working the color into hai! r like shampoo but do not rub into scalp. Loosely pil! e hair o n top of your head. Do not worry if the color of the mixture on your hair looks different from your desired color. If any color gets on your skin or household surface, wipe it off immediately with a damp towel.
	4. TIME IT Once you have finished applying the color, leave it on hair for the time indicated by your Strand Test or 25 minutes. Pour any unused color mixture down the drain. Once mixed, it will lose its effectiveness after an hour. Tip: For Extra Light Blonde (XL02), Intense Red (3RR) and resistant gray, it may be necessary to leave color on for up to 45 minutes.
	5. RINSE & APPL! Y CONDITIONER Add a small amount of warm water to your hair and work into a lather by gently massaging. Rinse thoroughly until water runs clear. Shampooing is not necessary. Apply a quarter-size amount of Pantene Pro-V After-Color Moisturizing Therapy [3] evenly to hair to condition and lock in lush, radiant color. For best color results, leave on for 2 minutes. Rinse thoroughly with warm water. Save the remainder for up to 5 more weekly treatments. Use once a week after shampooing to help seal in moisture and protect your color radiance. In addition, we recommend regular use of Pantene Pro-V Expressions for Reds, Blondes, and Brunettes with specialized pro-vitamin formulas to make your unique shade look richer longer*! ROOT APPLICATION - Ideal For Users Who Color Every 4-6 Weeks To Help Keep Hair Healthy-Looking and Ensure Even Color Root to Tip.
	1. PRE-TREAT DRY HAIR Follow step 1 above. 2. PREPARE Follow step 2 above. Part your dry hair into 4 sections and use plastic clips to hold in place. 3. START COLORING Let down the first section of hair and fully saturate your roots only. Repeat with 3 other sections until roots are covered. Save the remainder of the haircolor to use for the rest of your hair. 4. TIME IT Leave the color on roots 5 minutes less than your Strand Test or 20 minutes. Use gloved fingers to work remaining hai! rcolor through hair to ends. Leave on for an additional 5 minutes. Tip: For Extra Light Blonde (XLO2), Intense Red (3RR) and resistant gray, it may be necessary to leave color on roots for 40 minutes before pulling color through for an additional 5 minutes. 5. RINSE & APPLY CONDITIONER Follow step 5 above.

HELPFUL HINTS FOR ALL RED SHADES

• Apply the Pre-Treatment to damp, unwashed hair, instead of dry hair. Follow remainder of instructions for Pre-Treatment below.
• When applying Color Crème, completely saturate hair using all the color available.

WHAT PRODUCTS DOES CLAIROL MAKE?!
Clairol makes haircolor products. Choose from Semi-Permanent (lasts through 8-12 shampoos), Demi-Permanent (lasts through 28 shampoos), Permanent (lasts until your hair grows out or you recolor) or Highlighting & Blonding to help you become colorwonderfulâ„¢.

SHOULD INDIVIDUALS WITH NATURAL, UNCOLORED HAIR USE DIFFERENT HAIRCOLOR PRODUCTS THAN THOSE WHO HAVE PREVIOUSLY COLORED THEIR HAIR?
It depends on the desired result. If you are coloring your hair for the first time and only want to enhance your natural color, try a Demi-Permanent (lasts through 28 shampoos) product close to your natural haircolor. If you want to go lighter, you need to select a Permanent (lasts until your hair grows out or you recolor) haircolor, then refer to the insert that comes inside your box of Clairol haircolor and follow the instructions for first time application.

SHOULD PEOPLE WHO WANT TO COVER GRAY HAIR USE DIFFERENT COLORING PRODUC! TS THAN THOSE WHO DON'T NEED COVERAGE?
Most Clairol haircolor products will blend or cover gray hair to some degree. If you have a small percentage of gray (not very visible), use a Semi-Permanent (lasts through 8-12 shampoos) product, such as Loving Care. If you have a higher percentage of gray hair (up to 50%), use a Demi-Permanent (lasts through 28 shampoos) product such as Natural Instincts, which will blend away gray hair.
On the other hand, if you have a lot of gray and want to cover it completely, use a Permanent (lasts until your hair grows out or you recolor) product. If you have 50% or more gray, use Nice 'n Easy Gray Solution.

HOW CAN I TEST-RUN A COLOR BEFORE COMMITTING TO COLORING MY ENTIRE HEAD OF HAIR?
Strand test is a simple method for you to test haircolor on a portion of your hair before doing the entire application. (The instructions are in your haircolor box.) It's an important step because it's the only way t! o see exactly how the shade you selected works with your start! ing hair color to achieve the resulting color. A strand test will also help you determine the exact timing you'll need to color your whole head.

IMPORTANT: SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

HAIR COLORANTS CAN CAUSE ALLERGIC REACTIONS WHICH IN RARE INSTANCES CAN BE SEVERE. TATTOOS MAY INCREASE YOUR RISK OF ALLERGY, TO REDUCE YOUR RISK FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS:
1. DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT AT ALL IF:

• You have already experienced any reaction to coloring products.
• You have sensitive, i! rritated or damaged scalp.

In these cases do not conduct the skin allergy test and consult a doctor before using any haircolor product.

2. PERFORM A SKIN ALLERGY TEST 48 HOURS BEFORE EACH PRODUCT USE even if you have already used coloring products before.

SKIN ALLERGY TEST INSTRUCTIONS

MUST BE PERFORMED 48 HOURS BEFORE YOU COLOR YOUR HAIR:
You will need a cotton ball or swab, a plastic bowl and a plastic spoon.

1. To open, unscrew the entire cap from the Moisturizing Developer bottle [2b]. (Do not pull off the tab.)
2. Then open the Deep Moisturizing Color Crème tube [2a]. Unscrew cap and turn it upside down. Hold tube firmly without squeezing and point the opening away from your face. Push the pointed end of the cap into the seal.
3. Mix small, equal parts of Color Crème [2a] and Moisturizing Developer [2b] (about 1 teaspoon) in plastic bowl. (For Extra Light Blonde [XL02], add 2 teaspoons ! Developer with 1 teaspoon Color Crème.)
4. Tightly recap! both Mo isturizing Developer bottle and the Color Crème tube.
5. Apply mixture to a test area the size of a quarter in the bend of your elbow. Allow to dry. Use remaining mixture for the strand test. Do not wash this area for 48 hours. During washing, protect with an adhesive bandage and remove it immediately after washing.
6. Examine the test area during the next 48 hours. If no reaction occurs, you are ready to color.

The absence of reaction to this test is no guarantee that an allergic reaction may not occur as a result of a future haircoloring process. However, this test represents an important precaution.Please consult a doctor if you have any doubts.

NOTE: IF A RASH, REDNESS, BURNING OR ITCHING OCCURS YOU MAY BE ALLERGIC. STOP. YOU MUST NOT USE THIS PRODUCT.

WHAT TO DO IF YOU HAVE A REACTION DURING OR WITHIN THE NEXT 48 HOURS OF COLORING YOUR HAIR IF DURING COLORING YOU EXPERIENCE:

• Any stinging or burni! ng and/or rash, rinse immediately and discontinue use as this may be an indication of a more serious reaction. DO NOT color your hair again before consulting a doctor or seeking medical advice.
• Rapidly spreading skin rash, dizziness or faintness, shortness of breath and/or swelling eyes/face, rinse immediately and SEEK IMMEDIATE MEDICAL ATTENTION. IF AFTER COLORING OR ON THE FOLLOWING DAYS YOU EXPERIENCE problems, such as skin itching, skin rash, swelling to eyes/face, blistering and/or skin or scalp weeping SEEK IMMEDIATE MEDICAL ATTENTION.

SPECIAL CAUTIONS

• This product contains ingredients including hydrogen peroxide, which may cause severe eye irritation and possible permanent eye injury. If any product gets into your eye, flush immediately with a large amount of lukewarm water and seek medical advice.
• We recommend removing contact lenses before applying haircolor. If you must wear contact lenses during ap! plication and if any product gets into your eye, remove the le! ns first , then flush immediately with a large amount of lukewarm water and seek medical advice.
• Never use haircolor on eyebrows or eyelashes or if your scalp is irritated or injured.
• Do not inhale or ingest product.
• Do not use if your hair has been colored with henna or metal dyes.
• Prepare and use the product in a well-ventilated area. If you experience inhalation difficulties, move to fresh air.
• Remove all metal objects from hair before and during coloring.
• Wear gloves and rinse hair well after application.
• Keep product in a cool place away from heat and light. Do not mix this colorant with any other product. Do not keep any unused mixed product. Do not leave the mixture in a closed bottle (bottle may expand or burst).
• Product not intended to be used on children.

Keep all haircoloring products out of reach of children.

STRAND TEST

Do the Strand Test each time you colo! r to determine optimal timing and color results. Perms, relaxers, previous color, and the sun can affect your results and timing.
You will need: scissors, tape and a clock.

1. Cut a 1/4 inch strand from the darkest or grayest part of your dry hair close to the scalp and tape at the cut end.
2. Completely cover the hair strand with the mixture remaining from Allergy Test. Start timing.
3. After 15 minutes, check the strand. If the strand is not the color you want, return it to the mixture and check the color every few minutes for up to 25 minutes. For extra light blonding, more intense color results, or to cover resistant grays, it may be necessary to leave the haircolor on for up to 45 minutes.

COLOR TIPS FROM HYDRIENCE

• Call the Expert Color Consultants if you are going more than two shades lighter or darker, going dramatically red or if you have bleached or double processed hair.
• Apply color to dry! hair that is free of styling product build-up. If hair has st! yling pr oduct build-up, shampoo one day prior to coloring. However, DO NOT shampoo immediately before coloring. Your scalp has natural oils that help to protect it during coloring.
• If your hair has recently been permed or relaxed, wait at least 7 days and 1 shampoo before coloring. Be sure to do the Strand Test, since your timing may need to be reduced. If you plan to perm or relax your hair, wait at least 7 days and 1 shampoo after coloring.
• FOR HARD-TO-COLOR GRAY: It may be necessary to leave haircolor on for a total of 30-45 minutes. If you do not achieve desired results after 45 minutes, call the Clairol Expert Color Consultants.
• If you have used henna, gradual color restorers or metallic dyes, don't use this product until your hair has grown out and colored areas have been cut off.
• If your hair is longer than shoulder length, you may need an extra box of Clairol Hydrience.
• Extra Light ! Blonde shade (XL02) is not recommended for more than 20% gray coverage. Intense Red shade (3RR) is not recommended for gray hair.
